Banfi was born in 1978 thanks to the will of the Italian-American brothers John and Harry Mariani. The brothers themselves inaugurated Castello Banfi and its cellar a few years later. Thus, a centre of excellence was born in Montalcino, inextricably linked to the territory. Today, Banfi is led by Cristina Mariani-May and her cousin James Mariani, assisted by the expert oenologist Ezio Rivella.
