"Unique" is a tasting of Tenuta Carretta's great Reserves, for a sensory immersion in the wines that age the longest in the secret of barrels. An elegant t
Tenuta Carretta is located in Piobesi d'Alba, in the Roero region of Piedmont, and is a winery rich in history, among the most historic wineries in Italy. The origins of the name refer to a noblewoman, the "domina" Careta Constanzi, who lived in Alba in the second half of the 14th century and was the first owner.
But it is a sharecropping concession contract drawn up by notary Giorgio di Monteacuto on 28 November 1467 that is considered the true "birth certificate" of the estate's history. In it, the then owner Andrea Damiano, Consignore of Piobesi, gave the brothers Corrado, Giacomino and Pietrino Porrino the land and vineyards of the "cassìna Caréta" to cultivate for nine years.
In 1811 the property passed from the Marquis Damiano to the Conti Roero; in 1939 from the Roero to the Veglia family and, in 1985, to the Miroglio family of Alba, founder of the textile group of the same name.
Tenuta Carretta is part of "The Grand Wine Tour" network, an association of Italian producers who combine quality wines with hospitality.
They are part of the Langhe-Roero and Monferrato wine-growing district, an extraordinary territory recognised in 2014 by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, and extend over about 80 hectares. The largest part, about 40 hectares, is made up of a single plot of land that extends amphitheatrically around the winery, from south to north-west. The grapes grown are mostly arneis, then nebbiolo, barbera and favorita (the local name for vermentino).
The rest of the vineyards are on the hills of the Langhe, both in Bassa Langa (nebbiolo, barbera, dolcetto and moscato) and Alta Langa (pinot noir and chardonnay, for the classic method sparkling wine of the same name, and riesling renano).
The winery has been officially certified in 2019 for "integrated viticulture" and applies "The Green Experience" protocol, practising viticulture based on environmental sustainability, without the use of herbicides, where the fight against pests is carried out with the use of pheromone traps and the presence of their natural antagonists (birds and bats) is encouraged. Tenuta Carretta makes wine exclusively from its own grapes, and a properly managed vineyard not only safeguards the integrity of the soil and the environment, but also allows the production of wines with great personality, an expression of the territory of origin, enhancing its quality.
